Who is a kafir? /

Who is a kafir? /

Who is a kafir.?

The greatest obligation that a man owes on this earth is to his parents. But who has implanted the love for children in the parent’s heart? Who endowed the mother with the will & power to nurture, nourish & feed her children? Who inspired the father with the passion to spend everything in his possession for the well being of his children?

A little reflection would reveal that God is the greatest benefactor of man. He is his Creator, Lord, who Nourishes, Sustains as well as the Only Owner. So what can be the greater betrayal, ingratitude, rebellion & treason than “kufr”? What can be greater rejection than the rejection of God? – The One to whom we owe our very existence?

A kafir is the one who rejects faith but “kafara“, “kufr”, “kafir” & other derivative forms of the word in Arabic also implies a deliberate or intentional rejection, instead of a mistaken idea in the existence of God. A person who has an attitude of mind which is in-consistent with an earnest desire to see the truth; who deliberately turns away from the Signs of his Lord after they are been made clear to him – is  a “kafir“ in true sense of the word.

The possibility of this rejection is due to the grant of a free will to man & the consequences of such a rejection results in the deadening of the spiritual faculties. The senses get impervious to good or for better influence. Anyone who has worked for the dissemination of the Truth often finds that if, after full consideration, he decides to go against the Truth then, his mind begins to move in a completely opposite direction so that he fails to appreciate anything that is explained to him. His ears become deaf – hearing he hears not, his eyes are blinded – seeing he sees not, and one gets the distinct impression that there is a veil over his spiritual senses.

The more he turns away from the Signs of his Lord, the more his vision gets blurred & the voice keeps on getting fainter & fainter on his ears, until a stage of deafness is a reached. His own actions are responsible for this and he had reached at such a stage by his own choice.  He is then left alone for a time that he may commune with himself & perhaps repent and seek God’s Mercy again.

Even during this time when he is left alone to wander astray, God’s Mercy still encompasses him beyond his deserts. His Grace is still open to him during this appointed time, if he repents and returns to his Lord and Master; as nothing but only God’s Grace can save him if he does not, the loss will be his own, because ones the time of repentance is over then there will be no chance of turning back or to

Think again…

And who does more wrong than one who is reminded of the Signs of his Lord, but turns away from them, forgetting what (deeds) his hands have sent forth. Truly, We have set veils over their hearts so that they understand this (Qur’aan) not, and over their ears, deafness. And if you (O Mohammad) call them to guidance, even then will they never accept guidance. And your Lord is Most Forgiving, Owner of Mercy. Were He to call them (at once) to account for what they have earned, then surly He would have hastened their punishment. But, they have their appointed time, beyond which they will find no escape. (Al-Qur’aan Sura. 18 Ayat. 57- 58)
